Improvisation Classes

  • Beginning Improv with Robert Gardner.
    In  comfortable, small-group sessions, Robert will  help classical players overcome their fears and develop techniques for improvising. 
  • Advanced improv with James Guerra.
    Learn about jazz scales and chords and how to use them in improvising.

Jam Sessions

  • Join our faculty and other professional players from the Pittsburgh area for informal evening jam sessions. Sit in and jam with the pros, or just hang out and socialize.

Elective Offerings

  • Free improv with Matt Turner.
    This session is always a tremendous hit! No structure. No harmony. Only one rule -- LISTEN!!
  • Fiddling with Richard Greene
    Learn from the Master
    This elective is offered every day. Not sequential. Come at your convenience.
  • Instrument Master Classes with our Artist-Faculty
    Jazz cellists are a rarity. Good jazz cello instruction is rarer still.

  • Electric Instrument instruction with Yamaha Clinician Steve Vance
  • Introduction to Arabic music with Matt Turner
  • Eastern European Folk Jam with Stephen Benham

Final Concert

On Friday evening, July 10, all the students and faculty will participate in a gala performance in Duquesne University's elegant PNC Recital Hall. Family members and friends are cordially invited to the concert and to the reception afterwards.
