These were the "other camp activities" for 2007. This page will be updated shortly for 2008

Improvisation Classes

  • Beginning Improv with Roy Sonne. In  comfortable, small-group sessions, Roy will  help classical players overcome their fears and develop techniques for improvising.
  • Advanced improv with James Guerra. Learn about jazz scales and chords and how to use them in improvising.

Jam Sessions

  • Join our faculty and other professional players from the Pittsburgh area for informal evening jam sessions. Sit in and jam with the pros, or just hang out and socialize.

Elective Offerings

  • Free improv with Terry Steele. This was a tremendous hit in 2005. No structure. No harmony. Only one rule -- LISTEN!!
  • Scottish Fiddling with Melinda Crawford
  • Violin/viola masterclass with Roy Sonne
Play your prepared solo (Classical or otherwise) in a masterclass setting or just observe and get new ideas about technique and tone production.
  • Cello class with Matt Turner. Jazz cellists are a rarity. Good jazz cello instruction is rarer still.
  • Bass class with Robert Gardner
  • Electric Instrument instruction
  • Introduction to Arabic music with Matt Turner
  • Eastern European Folk Jam with Stephen Benham

Final Concert

  • On Friday evening, July 14, all the students and faculty will participate in a gala performance in Duquesne University's elegant PNC Recital Hall. Family members and friends are cordially invited to the concert and to the reception afterwards.
